The Bible teaches that humanity’s purpose is to glorify God by reflecting His image. We are to love Him and others, and fulfill good works He prepared in advance. Ultimately, we find purpose in Christ for His kingdom’s glory, not just personal happiness. In addition, we do this by living a holy life and serving others. Key themes are that we are God’s workmanship, created for good deeds. We are called to align our lives with His divine plan. Consequently, this plan involves worship and service. It also calls us to become more like Jesus.

Core Themes of Purpose

  • Glorify God: The ultimate purpose is to bring glory to God in all we do. Whether big or small, we should seek His honor (1 Corinthians 10:31).
  • Reflect God’s Image: Created in God’s image, our purpose is to reflect His character through loving Him and serving others (Genesis 1:26, 1 Peter 2:9).
  • Created for Good Works: We are God’s handiwork, made in Christ Jesus to do good works that God prepared for us (Ephesians 2:10).
  • Christ-Centered Purpose: Our identity and purpose are found in Christ. Everything finds its meaning and beginning in Him (Ephesians 1:11-12, Colossians 1:16).
  • God’s Sovereign Plan: God has specific plans for our welfare and a future. Additionally, His purpose for us is to be conformed to the image of His Son (Jeremiah 29:11, Romans 8:28-29).

How to Live It Out

  • Worship & Obedience: Fear God and keep His commandments, which is our whole duty (Ecclesiastes 12:13).
  • Trust & Surrender: Commit your work to the Lord, trusting that His purpose will stand (Proverbs 16:3).
  • Love & Serve Others: Extend kindness, forgiveness, and care to those around you as part of God’s plan (Ephesians 4:32, 1 Peter 4:10).
  • Seek God’s Word: Use Scripture as a guide, a lamp for your path, to understand His will (Psalm 119:105).
